Gangwar Help

Gangwar is a gangster game set in a "Chicago like" city in the USA between 1920 and 1980. The city is made up of 50 x 50 blocks, each block holding between 1 and 9 buildings. You start controlling one block and have to expand your turf to win the game. If you get to 500 blocks first then you win.

City Guide

Yes this is a game with a map! Each block is numbered xxyy, where xx is 01 to 50 (across) and yy is 01 to 50 down. Top left is 0101, top right is 5001. Bottom right is 5050 etc.

Each block has 9 lots on it. Buildings occupy 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 or 9 lots.

Refer to buildings by their block number plus building number (1-9) eg 12034 is block 1203 building 4.

Your Gang

You start with 1 Lieutenant, 10 soldiers and 5 recruits. Each Lieutenant can manage up to 99 soldiers and recruits and you can have up to 9 Lieutenants. You can expand by attracting more recruits. Your lieutenants are in Mafia terms "Made Men". But be careful to keep them happy or they may defect to other families. Their soldiers and recruits may be more loyal to them than you so watch your back in case they defect en masse. You may even have to whack one of your Lieutenants and promote someone to take over.

Guns and Gear

You need weapons to give you power and can buy pistols, revolvers, shotguns and tommyguns. To get anywhere of course you need cars. Everyone carries a knife so even without guns, you'll have some kind of defence. Against well armed men though knives are pretty useless.

Rackets and Money

You want guns, you need money. To bribe Judges and Cops, you need money. To do .. well you get the idea. Rackets are how you make big bucks. If you control a block you can set up one or more rackets there. You get protection money automatically but setting up gambling dens, brothels, taking over unions.. Kerching!

To setup the racket you need the specified number of Lieutenants, Soldiers and Recruits. You can send more. It will also cost the amount spcified.

Lieutenants and Promotion

You start with just one Lieutenant. As your soldiers gain experience, one or two of them will stand out and be promoted to Lieutenant.

Recruits are usually promoted after a couple of missions or training sessions. Sometimes it takes a little longer.

Your base

All operations start from your base building which is somewhere big, perhaps a warehouse, old factory etc. This is where your soldiers and recruits are between missions unless they are guarding a racket elsewhere.

Gaurd Your Base! If your base area block is attacked and everyone killed then you are out of the game! Tip. The more blocks you control around the base the better the defences are. You could always relocate to another block if your base is being attacked.

Popularity/Terror

Inhabitants of each block have an opinion about the gangs in their neighbourhood. This is affected by the proximity of other blocks you control, intimidation, robbery and attacks you make on that block. Once you are the most notorious gang in that block then you can take control. Once you have a block it remains yours (and businessnes pay protection) until some other gang comes along or you are wiped out. Keep an eye on the notorieties for each block you own.

Most orders need a target- this can be a block, building, another gang or items. Gangs are numbered 001-250.
